Depending on function, steering tie rods are subdivided into inner and outer tie rods. steering tie rods or intermediate rods affect the tow-in of a steering system. steering tie rods are identical in length and form a positive link both with the steering arm of the hub carrier (steering knuckle) and with the intermediate steering rod. To prevent wheel contact under full lock, the outer tie rods are almost always bent at right angles. The inner tie rod axial joints are attached at the ends of the steering rack and are sealed with bellows . As shown in the pres- ent example, tie rodsmay be split such that the effective length is infinitely adjustable via a clamping collar or a threaded stud.
